The Italian government has decided not to proceed with the decriminalization of clandestine immigration, despite having been mandated to do so by the Parliament. Eighteen civil society groups - including Medu, Amnesty International, Asgi, A Buon Diritto and LasciateCientrare - have organized a flash-mob outside Palazzo Chigi (the residence of the prime minister) to protest against this and demand the abrogation of the unfair and useless (if not detrimental) crime. Those escaping war, persecution and poverty should be welcomed and protected, instead of punished: migration is not a crime!
