Lithuania takes its first step to ensuring equal recognition before the law for people with disabilities.

Currently, a bundle of law amendments seeking to reform the status of incapacity (currently incompatible with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Disabled) is waiting to be deliberated at the Seimas (Parliament). Among other things, the changes will allow a person to enter into an agreement for the provision of support in decision-making and will also pledge to provide free legal representation when any issues relating to personal treatment are deliberated.
