Asylum seekers must wait for at least five months before they can apply for asylum, says the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). During this period, they'll have to wait in a crisis or emergency accommodation. For the last couple of months, the IND has hired hundreds of extra personnel and for the coming six months, working weeks will go seven days. The long waiting periods led to demonstrations at the camp near Nijmegen on October 13. The asylum seekers there heard they might have to wait another five months at that site before their procedure will begin.
