A Polish court ordered provisional detention for a suspect, identified as XY, charged with using a fake ID. The court based its decision on its belief that the suspect committed the offense, which means that the judgment breached the principle of presumption of innocence. XY's lawyer appealed, but before the appeal was heard, the court prolonged the pretrial detention period another two months. "Such decisions by the court raise serious doubts regarding rights guaranteed by the European Convention of Human Rights,” said Piotr Kubaszewski, a lawyer for the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights.
