A German with Indian ancestors has filed a suit against racist police practices. The 40-year-old man was sitting in a train on his way home when the police asked him to present his ID card. No other passenger in the train was asked to do so. The plaintiff is convinced that he was picked because of his skin color. According to the German government, racial profiling doesn’t exist in Germany and is officially prohibited. However, federal police law allows controls without any concrete suspicion in trains, stations and airports to fight illegal migration.
