Changes were made in April to the regulations regarding the use of electronic monitoring as punishment under Polish law. According to the new criminal code, a person’s sentence is shortened in Poland by the detention period served abroad before the person was transferred to Poland under European Arrest Warrant (EAW). Yet, it still hasn’t been specified how it should be interpreted in the case of electronic supervision used abroad. The scale of this issue is huge – in 2015, Polish courts issued 1,611 decisions on the basis of EAW regulations.
