Bulgarian right-wing groups annually honor General Hristo Lukov, a commander during World War I and a leader of the Bulgarian National Legions, a far-right organization that was followed mainly by young people. Human rights activists oppose allowing public events that use patriotism for anti-democratic purposes. There is evidence that many of the participants in the "Lukov March" are outspoken supporters of neo-Nazism. Like the 2014 march, this year's edition, held Saturday, February 14, went ahead without permission from the city. An anti-fascist protest took place earlier that day.
