There are a few hundred jihadists and a few thousand supporters of jihadism in the Netherlands, the Dutch intelligence service (AIVD) writes in its 2014 annual report. The AIVD cautions against the threat of attacks in the Netherlands. Jihadists could identify themselves with the spokespersons of the Islamic State (IS), who called for attacks to be committed in the West. The attacks in Paris and Copenhagen are quoted as examples. According to the AIVD, through the end of 2014, roughly 180 jihadists have left the Netherlands to fight for organizations like IS, around 20 of whom have died.
