The tens of thousands of asylum-seeking children entering Europe every month do not receive the care they need, says Marc Dullaert, the Dutch ombudsman for children. He is especially worried about their mental health. As president of a new taskforce, he wants to square shoulders with other European ombudspersons for children in putting the problem to the attention of government leaders. Dullaert says there is still too little focus on what the children have been through. Besides mentioning sexual abuse and forced child marriages, he also mentioned police operations at the borders.
