The Dutch state will lodge an appeal against the ruling in the so-called Urgenda case. In this much discussed ruling, the court in The Hague ruled that the Netherlands must ensure that the emissions of greenhouse gases will be at least 25 percent lower than it was in 1990. Based on the present policies, a maximal reduction of 17 percent will be reached. The Urgenda Foundation, a group of civilians pursuing a more sustainable Netherlands, began the legal action. The state says it will immediately implement the ruling, despite lodging an appeal.
