In a unanimous judgment concerning three asylum seekers represented by the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, the European Court of Human Rights stated today that Hungary has unlawfully detained Somali asylum seekers. An especially interesting and very relevant aspect of the case is that the Hungarian government actually admitted that Serbia is not a safe country for refugees, even though there is no imminent threat to the life of asylum seekers. Ironically, the Hungarian government has enshrined into law something it denies before an international court.
