The Dutch government won't push municipalities to take in asylum seekers against their will. PvdA chairman in Parliament Diederik Samson (Labour Party) said so in the television program Nieuwsuur on October 12. "We agreed we won't do this anymore," Samson responded to a question about the hassle that occurred in the Drenthe village of Oranje (140 inhabitants). State Secretary Dijkhoff had decided, against current agreements, to double the number of asylum seekers from 700 to 1,400. Earlier, Dijkhoff hadn't said if he would put aside the agreements made with municipalities once more.
