A group of parents of youngsters who went to Syria argue that the Dutch government could and should have done more to keep their children in the Netherlands. That’s why they’re starting proceedings against the Dutch state with the National Department of Criminal Investigation. The parents had notified the police, municipality or other authorities about their children's plans to join jihadism. Upon notification, these authorities should have immediately withdrawn their passports or detained them, the parents say, but this did not happen. Some of the children in question died in Syria.
