Il presidente della Commissione Europea ha dichiarato che entro fine settembre saranno presentate nuove proposte riguardanti in particolare "i rimpatri, la solidarietà con l'Africa e l'apertura di nuovi corridoi umanitari". L'UE ha una direttiva sui rimpatri e ha proposto ulteriori misure quest'anno, tra cui controverse raccomandazioni che hanno consentito alla polizia di bloccare i minori "come ultima spiaggia".
